Underworld: Rise of the Lycans is a dark fantasy action film and the third installment in the Underworld series, directed by Patrick Tatopoulos. Unlike its predecessors, this film serves as a prequel, exploring the origins of the centuries-long war between vampires and Lycans (werewolves). Set in a medieval world, the film focuses on the backstory of Lucian (Michael Sheen), the first Lycan born with the ability to transform at will. The forbidden romance between Lucian and Sonja sets off a chain of events that lead to a violent uprising. As Lucian unites the enslaved Lycans against Viktor’s oppressive rule, the seeds of the enduring vampire-Lycan conflict are sown, culminating in a tragic and explosive rebellion.
