Once he joins the Legion, Lefevre is thrust into the harsh realities of military life in North Africa during the early 20th century. Alongside other soldiers from various backgrounds, he is trained under the ruthless Sergeant Major Renson (Steven Berkoff), who demands nothing less than total obedience and strength. As the soldiers are sent to fight in the remote desert, they must endure the hardships of war, including intense battles and constant threats from enemy forces.
Throughout the film, Lefevre struggles with his personal demons and attempts to redeem himself, finding solace and purpose in the bonds he forms with his fellow legionnaires. His strength and courage are put to the test as he faces not only the brutality of combat but also the moral challenges of surviving in the harshest of conditions.
