Plot Summary
Batman Begins marks the reinvention of the iconic superhero’s origin story, exploring the events that led Bruce Wayne to don the cape and cowl. Under the mentorship of Henri Ducard (Liam Neeson) in the mysterious League of Shadows, he hones his skills but rejects their extreme methods of justice.
Returning to Gotham City, now a decaying hub of corruption and organized crime, Bruce adopts the identity of Batman. With support from his loyal butler Alfred (Michael Caine) and Wayne Enterprises’ tech genius Lucius Fox (Morgan Freeman), Bruce builds a persona that strikes fear into the hearts of criminals. He battles mob boss Carmine Falcone (Tom Wilkinson) and psychiatrist Dr. Jonathan Crane (Cillian Murphy), aka Scarecrow, who uses a hallucinogenic toxin to spread terror.
As Batman uncovers a larger conspiracy tied to the League of Shadows, he must confront Ra’s al Ghul’s (Liam Neeson) plan to destroy Gotham, testing his resolve to protect his city and uphold his moral code.
