Independence Day 3 marks the return of Roland Emmerich to the helm of this iconic franchise, following the massive success of the original Independence Day (1996) and the 2016 sequel Independence Day: Resurgence. This new installment promises to expand the scope of the alien invasion saga while delving deeper into humanity’s ongoing battle for survival against extraterrestrial forces.
Set several years after the events of Resurgence, Independence Day 3 will introduce new characters while bringing back familiar faces, as humanity faces a new, even more advanced alien threat. The film will explore the global consequences of the previous alien invasions, dealing with the long-term effects on Earth’s ecosystems, technology, and geopolitics.
The story picks up with Earth continuing its recovery from the previous alien attacks. Global powers have united in the aftermath, using salvaged alien technology to advance human civilization and strengthen Earth’s defense capabilities. However, a new extraterrestrial force emerges—one even more powerful and dangerous than the previous invaders.
This new alien race, called the “Xenon,” is not just technologically superior but also has a psychological advantage, knowing how to manipulate humanity’s fears and weaknesses. As the Xenon launch a full-scale invasion, humanity’s combined forces, including the former military leaders and scientists from the first two films, must reunite to face this ultimate threat.
Liam Hemsworth’s character, Jake Morrison, now a seasoned veteran, leads a team of fighters who must use both old and new tactics to defend the planet. Alongside them is a new generation of heroes, including the children of iconic characters from the first two films, who must come to terms with their legacy while fighting for Earth’s survival.
