Beauty and the Beast (2017)

Beauty and the Beast (2017), directed by Bill Condon, is a live-action adaptation of Disney’s beloved 1991 animated classic. Starring Emma Watson as Belle and Dan Stevens as the Beast, the film brings the timeless fairy tale to life with stunning visuals, elaborate musical numbers, and deeper character development.
The story follows Belle, a bright, independent young woman living in a small French village. She longs for adventure beyond her provincial life and is misunderstood by the townspeople, particularly by the arrogant hunter Gaston (Luke Evans), who relentlessly pursues her. When her father, Maurice (Kevin Kline), is imprisoned by a monstrous Beast in a mysterious, enchanted castle, Belle bravely offers herself in his place.

As Belle adjusts to life in the castle, she discovers that the Beast and his enchanted servants—Lumière (Ewan McGregor), Cogsworth (Ian McKellen), Mrs. Potts (Emma Thompson), and others—are under a curse that transformed them from humans into objects. Over time, Belle and the Beast grow close, realizing they have more in common than they thought. Their love becomes the key to breaking the curse, but Gaston, jealous and enraged, leads an attack on the castle, putting everyone in danger.

This version expands on the original by giving Belle and the Beast richer backstories, particularly exploring the Beast’s past and Belle’s mother’s fate. The film also introduces new songs by Alan Menken and Tim Rice alongside the classic soundtrack. The breathtaking set design, CGI effects, and strong performances make it a visually stunning and emotionally resonant retelling.
Though largely faithful to the original, Beauty and the Beast adds depth and grandeur, making it a magical experience for both longtime fans and new audiences.
