Doctor Zhivago (1965)

Doctor Zhivago (1965) is an epic romantic drama directed by David Lean, based on the 1957 novel of the same name by Boris Pasternak. Set against the backdrop of the Russian Revolution and the subsequent Russian Civil War, the film weaves a tale of love, politics, and personal sacrifice, focusing on the life of Yuri Zhivago (played by Omar Sharif), a poet and doctor torn between his wife Tonya (played by Geraldine Chaplin) and his lover Lara (played by Julie Christie).
The film is renowned for its sweeping cinematography, grand storytelling, and a haunting musical score by Maurice Jarre, including the famous “Lara’s Theme”, which became an iconic piece of music in its own right.
The story is framed through the recollections of Yuri Zhivagoโ€™s half-brother, General Yevgraf Zhivago (played by Alec Guinness), who is searching for Yuri’s long-lost daughter in post-World War II Russia. Through his narration, the film traces Yuri’s life from his childhood through the turbulent years of the Russian Revolution and beyond.
