Plot Summary
The story is set on Mars, where a team of astronauts has been conducting research for six months. They are on their last day before returning to Earth, eager to complete their mission and head home. As they prepare to leave, Marko Petrovic (Goran Kostić), one of the crew members, discovers evidence of microscopic life on Mars. Hoping to make a groundbreaking discovery, Marko keeps the information secret and goes out on an unauthorized mission to collect more samples.
During this mission, Marko falls into a deep fissure and dies. The crew initially believes it to be a tragic accident, but strange things begin to happen when his body is retrieved. Soon, the astronauts discover that the Martian life form is a deadly pathogen that reanimates the dead, turning them into aggressive, zombie-like creatures.
As the infected crew members begin attacking the others, the remaining astronauts, including Vincent Campbell (Liev Schreiber), Rebecca Lane (Romola Garai), Kim Aldrich (Olivia Williams), and Charles Brunel (Elias Koteas), must figure out how to survive and prevent the infection from spreading to Earth. The crew faces both the dangers of the Martian environment and the growing threat of the reanimated crew members as they fight for their lives.
