The story begins when Chris Flynn (played by Desmond Harrington) takes a detour off the main highway while driving through rural West Virginia to avoid a traffic jam. The group, consisting of Chris and a group of young campers—Jessie (Eliza Dushku), Carly (Emmanuelle Chriqui), Scott (Jeremy Sisto), Evan (Kevin Zegers), and Francine (Lindy Booth)—embark on a desperate attempt to survive as they are hunted by a family of deformed, inbred mutants with a taste for human flesh.
