The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
The Dark Knight Rises (2012) is the epic conclusion to Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy, following *Batman Begins* (2005) and The Dark Knight (2008).
Directed and co-written by Nolan, the film stars Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, and it focuses on the final chapter of his journey as Gotham’s protector. The movie is known for its complex characters, intense action sequences, and a fitting end to Nolan’s grounded take on the Batman mythos.
Set eight years after the events of The Dark Knight, in which Batman took the fall for Harvey Dent’s crimes, Bruce Wayne has retired his alter ego and lives in isolation, physically and emotionally broken. Gotham City has entered a period of peace under the Dent Act, but this calm is disrupted by the emergence of a new threat: the mercenary Bane, played by Tom Hardy.
Bane is a physically imposing villain with a master plan to destroy Gotham. He cripples Batman both physically and mentally, breaking his back in an iconic scene reminiscent of the “Knightfall” storyline from the comics. Bane’s takeover of Gotham forces Bruce to confront his own fears and limitations, both as a man and as a hero.
