Braveheart (1995)

Braveheart (1995) is an epic historical war drama directed by and starring Mel Gibson. Set in 13th-century Scotland, the film is loosely based on the life of William Wallace, a Scottish warrior who led a revolt against the English in the First War of Scottish Independence. Braveheart is known for its stirring action sequences, passionate performances, and its portrayal of the Scottish fight for freedom, though its historical accuracy has been the subject of much debate.
The story begins with a young William Wallace (played by Mel Gibson) who witnesses the brutal murder of his father and brothers by English soldiers. As he grows into an adult, Wallace returns to Scotland after studying abroad. He falls in love with Murron MacClannough (played by Catherine McCormack), and the two secretly marry. When Murron is murdered by English soldiers, Wallace is consumed with rage and vows to lead his countrymen in a fight against the oppressive English rule.
Wallace’s leadership and military strategy inspire many Scottish clans to rise up against the English. Throughout the film, Wallace faces betrayal, personal loss, and the overwhelming might of the English army, including the cruel King Edward I (played by Patrick McGoohan) and his son, Prince Edward (played by Peter Mullan). The story climaxes with the Battle of Stirling Bridge, a pivotal moment in the Scottish War of Independence, and ends with Wallace’s martyrdom.
