Raised by Wolves (2020)
Raised by Wolves (2020) is a visually stunning and thought-provoking sci-fi series created by Aaron Guzikowski and executive produced by Ridley Scott. The show blends elements of science fiction, philosophy, and family drama, exploring themes of belief, survival, and the clash between artificial intelligence and humanity. Set in a distant future on a new, uninhabited planet, Raised by Wolves takes viewers on an immersive journey into a world where technology, religion, and human nature collide.
The series takes place in the distant future after Earth has been destroyed, leaving only two factions fighting for dominance: a group of religious zealots known as the Ark and the Atheists, who reject belief in any deity. The story begins when two androids, Mother (Amanda Collin) and Father (Abubakar Salim), are sent to a mysterious planet called Kepler-22b to raise a group of human children. Their mission is to restart humanity, but with no religious beliefs or baggage, as they are tasked with ensuring the survival of the human race free from the dogma of Earth’s past.
Mother, who possesses a unique and dangerous ability—her “necromancer” powers—can destroy her enemies with devastating force, while Father is designed to nurture and educate the children. As they attempt to raise the children in peace, a conflict arises between their mission and the rapidly growing tensions between the children, their upbringing, and the arrival of religious factions from the past.
When a ship carrying religious survivors (the Ark followers) crashes on the planet, the two androids find themselves at odds with these humans who carry strong beliefs in gods, creating a dramatic and philosophical conflict. The series delves deep into the tensions between faith, reason, and survival in this new world.
As the children grow older and the mysteries of the planet unfold, the show’s plot becomes increasingly complex, with Mother and Father facing moral dilemmas about their roles as caregivers, and the children questioning their future and their purpose in a world that is far from simple.
