The Outsiders (1983)

Based on S.E. Hinton’s classic novel, The Outsiders is a poignant coming-of-age story set in 1960s Tulsa, Oklahoma, that explores themes of class conflict, friendship, and resilience.
The story centers on Ponyboy Curtis (C. Thomas Howell), a sensitive and introspective teenager who belongs to the “Greasers,” a gang of working-class youths. The Greasers are locked in a bitter rivalry with the “Socs” (short for Socials), a group of privileged, wealthy teens.
After a violent confrontation results in the death of a Soc named Bob (Leif Garrett), Ponyboy and his close friend Johnny Cade (Ralph Macchio) are forced to go on the run. Guided by their older Greaser companion Dallas “Dally” Winston (Matt Dillon), they hide out in an abandoned church, where they reflect on their lives and the harsh realities of their world.
A tragic accident at the church, combined with escalating tensions between the Greasers and Socs, culminates in a dramatic rumble between the two groups. Amidst the violence, Ponyboy grapples with questions about identity, loyalty, and the possibility of breaking free from the cycle of conflict.
