Plot Summary

Based on a true story, Schindler’s List follows the transformation of Oskar Schindler, a German businessman and member of the Nazi Party, who risks everything to save over 1,100 Jewish people during the Holocaust.

At the start of World War II, Schindler arrives in Kraków, Poland, seeing the war as an opportunity for profit. He sets up a factory producing war supplies, employing Jewish workers because they are cheaper labor. With the help of Itzhak Stern (Ben Kingsley), a Jewish accountant, Schindler grows wealthy while keeping his factory running.

However, as the war continues, Schindler witnesses the horrific treatment of Jews, especially under the brutal command of Amon Göth (Ralph Fiennes), a ruthless Nazi officer overseeing the liquidation of the Kraków ghetto and the operations of Plaszów concentration camp.

What begins as a quest for wealth and status turns into a mission of humanity. Using his resources, Schindler bribes Nazi officials, falsely claiming that his workers are “essential to the war effort”, saving them from deportation to Auschwitz. In his final act, he compiles “Schindler’s List”, a document containing names of over 1,100 Jews, ensuring their survival as the war comes to an end.

By the war’s conclusion, Schindler has lost his fortune but has saved countless lives. The film’s final moments show the real Schindler Jews, visiting his grave, a powerful reminder of his legacy.
