“Hidalgo” (2004) is an epic adventure film directed by Joe Johnston, starring Viggo Mortensen as Frank T. Hopkins, a long-distance rider who participates in a grueling race across the Arabian desert. The film is loosely based on the life of Hopkins and his horse, Hidalgo, a mustang.
Set in the late 19th century, the story follows Frank Hopkins, who claims to have been a scout for the U.S. Cavalry and a participant in the legendary “Ocean of Fire” race. After being invited to compete in this dangerous race in Arabia, Hopkins must overcome numerous challenges, including cultural differences, rival competitors, and the harsh desert conditions. Alongside his horse Hidalgo, he embarks on a journey that tests their endurance, bravery, and spirit.
