“The Last Days on Mars” (2013)

“The Last Days on Mars” (2013) is a science fiction horror film directed by Ruairí Robinson and stars Liev Schreiber, Romola Garai, Elias Koteas, and Olivia Williams. The film is based on the short story “The Animators” by Sydney J. Bounds and follows a group of astronauts on Mars who encounter a terrifying, life-threatening discovery just before they are set to return to Earth.
Set during the final hours of a Mars mission, the crew is preparing for departure when one of the scientists stumbles upon bacterial life on the planet. However, this life form turns out to be dangerous, as it infects and reanimates dead bodies, turning crew members into aggressive, zombie-like creatures. The situation quickly spirals into a fight for survival, with the crew trying to contain the infection and escape before it wipes them all out.
The film blends elements of sci-fi with horror, evoking a tense and claustrophobic atmosphere as the crew faces the deadly consequences of their discovery. While The Last Days on Mars received mixed reviews, it was praised for its performances, particularly by Liev Schreiber, and its strong visual design, despite criticism for its familiar plot elements.
