The Last of the Mohicans (1992) is a historical epic directed by Michael Mann, based on James Fenimore Cooper’s 1826 novel of the same name and its 1936 film adaptation. Starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Madeleine Stowe, and Wes Studi, the film is set during the French and Indian War (1754–1763) and combines intense action with a romantic, tragic narrative set against the backdrop of colonial America.
The film is set in 1757 during the conflict between British and French colonial forces, allied with various Native American tribes. The story follows Hawkeye (Daniel Day-Lewis), the adopted son of Chingachgook (Russell Means), the last chief of the Mohican tribe. Along with his brother Uncas (Eric Schweig), Hawkeye becomes embroiled in the conflict when he meets Cora Munro (Madeleine Stowe) and her sister Alice (Jodhi May), the daughters of British Colonel Munro.

Hawkeye and his Mohican family rescue the sisters, and they become entangled in a perilous journey across dangerous terrain, as the British and French forces wage war around them.
As the story progresses, Hawkeye and Cora fall in love, while Uncas develops feelings for Alice. Meanwhile, Magua relentlessly pursues his quest for vengeance, determined to kill Colonel Munro and destroy his family. The climactic moments of the film revolve around the final battle between the Mohicans and Magua’s forces, with love, sacrifice, and loyalty at the heart of the tragedy that unfolds.
