Fright Night (1985) is a horror-comedy film written and directed by Tom Holland. The film became a cult classic for its unique blend of traditional vampire horror elements with dark humor, appealing to both horror fans and those looking for a fresh take on the vampire genre. The movie stars Chris Sarandon, William Ragsdale, Roddy McDowall, and Amanda Bearse, and itβs known for its clever writing, practical special effects, and affectionate homage to classic monster films.
Charley Brewster (William Ragsdale) is a typical high school teenager with a love for horror movies, who lives with his mother in a suburban neighborhood. One night, while spying on his new neighbor, Jerry Dandrige (Chris Sarandon), Charley sees something shocking: Jerry is a vampire who is feeding on a young woman. Frightened, Charley tries to convince his friends and family of what he has witnessed, but no one believes him.
Desperate for help, Charley turns to Peter Vincent (Roddy McDowall), a washed-up actor who used to play a vampire hunter in old horror movies, but now hosts a late-night TV horror show called Fright Night. Peter Vincent initially dismisses Charleyβs claims as fantasy, but as the evidence mounts and Jerry begins to target Charley and his friends, Peter is forced to accept that vampires are real.
What follows is a battle between Charley and Peter against Jerry, as they try to defeat the charming but deadly vampire before he can claim more victims. The film builds to an intense and entertaining climax as Charley and Peter confront Jerry in his home, using their knowledge of vampire lore to try and survive the night.
