Black Death (2010)

Black Death (2010) is a dark historical horror film directed by Christopher Smith, set during the Black Plague in medieval England. The story follows Osmund (Eddie Redmayne), a young monk grappling with his faith, who is recruited by a group of mercenaries led by Ulric (Sean Bean). Tasked with investigating a remote village rumored to be untouched by the plague, they suspect it to be a place of necromancy and paganism, and Ulric believes they must confront a dark force at play.
As the group ventures deeper into the eerie landscape, they encounter superstition, brutality, and moral dilemmas that challenge their beliefs. When they reach the village, they meet the mysterious healer Langiva (Carice van Houten), whose practices and control over the villagers intensify the tension, leading to a clash between faith and fear, and questioning whether the real evil lies in the supernatural or human nature itself.
